The Mark Logo - What Does It Represent?

When established many years ago, the name, the Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of South Australia did not include the Northern Territory.

In more recent times, various Masons from the Northern Territory had already made requests to have the Northern Territory flag shown not only in the Great Hall but also very proudly on an External Flag Pole on top of the Grand Lodge Building. These Flags have been replaced when necessary by the Territory Brethren.

After much discussion, lobbying, and final agreement, it was decided to change the name so as to include the Northern Territory.

Some time later, the Mark Brethren noticed that the Mark Logo only represented South Australia. This again was lobbied for change to the Grand Master of the day, Allan Pearson. It was almost immediately changed to include not only the South Australian Floral Emblem, (Sturt’s Desert Pea) but also the Northern Territory Floral Emblem, being Sturt’s Desert Rose. These were then set around the Key Stone in the form of a Laurel Wreath.
